Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – Whitworth had a chance to pick up its first women's lacrosse victory of the season, but Puget Sound outscored the visiting Pirates 7-2 in the second half to rally for an 11-9 win over the Pirates.
Carcie Chappell and Kylee Walker scored three goals apiece for Whitworth, which dropped to 0-8 this season while the Loggers improved to 4-6.
Chappell scored three of the Pirates' first four goals to help Whitworth take a 4-2 lead 14 minutes into the match. Walker scored back-to-back goals to increase the Pirates' lead to 6-2. Sofiya Ilnitski scored a free position goal to help Whitworth go up 7-3 before Abby Stranahan scored to get UPS within 7-4 just before halftime.
Stranahan scored again two minutes into the second half to start the Loggers' rally. Emily La Riviere scored to tie the match 7-7. Walker's goal gave Whitworth its final lead at 8-7 with 16:32 to play.
Puget Sound put the match away with four straight goals over the next eight minutes, including two straight by Hayden Hotchkiss.
Abby Hahn scored the final goal for Whitworth with under one minute to play.
The Pirates will complete their season with a pair of matches at Pacific (Ore.) next weekend.
