Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – Carleigh DeLapp scored six goals and added an assist to lead visiting George Fox to a 23-2 win over Whitworth in a Northwest Conference women's lacrosse match on Sunday afternoon at the Whitworth Pine Bowl.
The Bruins scored the final 16 goals of the match to improve to 10-0 overall and 7-0 in the NWC, holding sole possession of first place in the league standings. The Pirates dropped to 0-6, 0-6.
DeLapp scored twice and Kyra Barnes scored twice to help GFU take a 7-0 lead 16 minutes into the match. After a Bruin turnover, Kylee Walker got Whitworth on the board with a goal off of an assist by Carcie Chappell. One minute later, Chappell scored on a free position shot to get the Bucs within 7-2.
But Whitworth would not score again against the Bruins' stingy defense. GFU scored six more times in the first half to take a 13-2 lead into halftime. DeLapp had one of those goals.
The Bruins outscored the Pirates 10-0 in the second half. DeLapp tallied the first and added two more in the period. Bailey Faust scored consecutive goals for GFU midway through.
Tori Schauer made eight saves in goal for Whitworth.
Grace Schmidt, a graduate student for the Pirates, was recognized prior to the match – her final home game in a Whitworth uniform. She has played in all 24 games in the history of Pirate lacrosse.
Whitworth returns to action next weekend with a pair of matches at the University of Puget Sound.
