SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University won its second straight match with an 9-0 victory over visiting Puget Sound on Saturday at the Scotford Tennis Center.
The Pirates improved to 4-10 overall and 3-3 in the NWC, while the Loggers fell to 1-6, 1-5.
Whitworth had little trouble sweeping the doubles matches. The closest came at #1, where Ethan Violette and Nathan Tjelle defeated Mike Smolskis and Rene Del Barco 8-3. Kincaid Norris and Jonathan Hutley won 8-2 at #2, while Brendan Archer and Cameron Brewer got an 8-1 victory at #3.
None of the six singles matches went more than two sets. Violette and Norris each earned 6-0, 6-0 shutouts at #1 and #2 singles, respectively. Hutley pulled out the closest decision – 6-2, 6-4 – at #3 singles. Alex D'Agostino got his first win of the season, with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at #6.
Whitworth will host Pacific University (Ore.) in a pair of matches next weekend.
