WALLA WALLA, Wash. – Whitworth University fell 4-0 to host Whitman College in the Northwest Conference tournament championship match on Saturday morning at Whitman Tennis Courts.
The Pirates finished the 2026 season with a 13-7 overall record and 11-3 NWC record, capped by their first NWC tournament championship match appearance in program history. The Blues (17-5, 14-0 NWC) earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA DIII tournament.
Whitman won its first two doubles matches to claim the first match point. Hanri Luo and Guillermo Rodriguez opened the session with a 6-0 win over Ryan Ashley and Matthew Morrison. Niklas Jensen and Alexander Stage followed with a 6-2 win over Henry Preacher and Matt Froslan on the No. 1 court.
The Blues continued their strong play with three consecutive singles wins. Jensen downed Preacher 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 position and Froslan fell to Charles Rush 6-0, 6-2 on the No. 5 court. Stage, the 2026 NWC player of the year, secured the tournament title for Whitman with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Morrison in the No. 1 position.
After a historic season, the Pirate men will be back in action this fall.
