SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth had its chances in three of the contests, but visiting Whitman was able to shut out the Pirates 9-0 in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Saturday.
Whitman improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the NWC while the Bucs dropped to 2-9, 1-2.
The Blues swept the doubles matches, but not before Ethan Violette and Kincaid Norris pushed their number one doubles match into a tiebreaker, eventually falling 8-7 (7-2).
Jonathan Hutley won the opening set of his #4 singles match with Jack Freer, but fell 4-6, 6-0, 6-1. Similarly, Nathan Tjelle jumped ahead by a set at #6 singles before Matt Biggi rallied to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Whitworth will host George Fox on Saturday in the Pirates' next match.
