SPOKANE, Wash. – Defending champion Whitman College rolled to a 9-0 win over Whitworth in the Northwest Conference men's tennis opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Pirates fell to 2-5, 0-1 in the NWC.

Whitworth played competitive tennis throughout the three doubles matches.  Jake Bethards and Cameron Brewer lost 8-7 at #3 doubles.  Ben Bethards and Ethan Violette fell 8-5 at #1.  Sean Singco and Kincaid Norris lost by the same score at #2.

None of the six singles matches went more than two sets. 

Jake Bethards played the closest singles result for the Bucs.  He lost 6-3, 6-4 at #3 singles.  Norris was defeated 6-2, 6-4 at #5.

The Pirates will host Lewis & Clark and Linfield next weekend in a pair of conference matches.
