TACOMA, Wash. – Whitworth picked up its third men's tennis victory of the season with a 9-0 win at Puget Sound on Saturday.
The Pirates improved to 3-12 overall and 3-3 in the NWC while the Loggers fell to 0-10, 0-6.
Jake Bethards and Thomas Remington earned an 8-3 win at #1 doubles, while Ben Bethards and Kincaid Norris won 8-1 at #2 doubles. Ian Fisher and Nick Hughes rolled to an 8-0 win at #3.
Whitworth rolled through singles as well, claiming five of the six matches in straight sets. Remington shut out his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at #5, while Hughes won 6-1, 6-0 at #6. The closest contest came at #2 singles where Fisher pulled out a 6-3, 6-8 (7), 1-0 (10-6) win.
The Pirates were scheduled to play an exhibition match at Bellevue CC later on Saturday. Whitworth will host Lewis-Clark State in a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon.
