Timmy Costa made one save for Whitworth. Berry goalkeeper Zachary Wroblewski collected seven saves.
Whitworth has not allowed a goal in its last five matches, and earned its eighth shutout win of the season.
"I'm beyond ecstatic with the performance we've had in the last two days," Cathey said. "And I think it's something we're going to grow off, and something that we know (is) if we want to be successful in this tournament we've got to get even stronger. And it's only going to get more difficult, so we're up for the challenge."
The Pirates' opponent in the round of 16 will be determined on Sunday. Locations, dates and times for the round of 16 matchup will be determined earlier Monday morning.
