COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Whitworth men's soccer squad scored three second half goals to down Austin College 3-1 in a non-conference neutral site match on Sunday afternoon, hosted by Colorado College at Stewart Field.
The Pirates leave Colorado Springs with their first win of the 2026 season after going 1-1 on the weekend road trip. The Kangaroos, who defeated Wheaton on Friday, fell to 1-2.
The first half of action finished scoreless with Whitworth leading the shot total 6-2. After having just one corner kick in Friday's match, the Bucs produced four in the first half on Sunday.
The Pirates kept the pressure on in the second half and broke through in the 63rd minute. Ralph Borromeo dribbled through the defense and fired a shot off the top crossbar. The ball deflected right to Boden Thomson, who sent home Whitworth's first goal of the season and the first of his career. 10 minutes later, Sebastian Alvarez took advantage of an Austin turnover and dished a pass to Lucas Waarvick, who netted his first career goal to double the Bucs' lead.
Whitworth kept firing and scored its third unanswered goal in the 77th minute. The Kangaroos failed to clear a free kick from the box before Borromeo settled the ball and fired it into the right side. Austin prevented a shutout with a goal a minute later.
The Bucs finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots while the Kangaroos led 6-5 in shots on target. The physical contest resulted in 29 total fouls, 12 on Whitworth and 17 on Austin.
Borromeo and Waarvick led the Pirates with two shots apiece. Nine other Bucs recorded a shot. Richard Perez and Daylan Lowe led Austin with two shots on goal each.
Oliver Hart made his first career start for Whitworth in net, playing the full 90 minutes with five key saves. Erik Beijen made two saves at goalkeeper for the Kangaroos.
The Pirates return to Spokane next weekend to host Mary-Hardin Baylor on September 11 and UC Santa Cruz on September 13.
