Pirate men's soccer falls 3-0 to Colorado College in season opener

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Whitworth men's soccer opened the 2026 season with a 3-0 loss to Colorado College on Friday Night at Stewart Field.

The Bucs battled defensively but struggled to find offensive opportunities against the defending Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference champions. Each of the Tigers goals game in the second half as they extended their home unbeaten streak to 27 matches.

The first half was a defensive battle, with both teams limited in quality chances. Whitworth was held out of the shot column but stayed even with Colorado College by allowing just four shots on the other side.

The Bucs held on for the first 20 minutes of the second half before the Tigers broke through in the 65th minute. Rocco Meyerhoff sent a long cross into the center of the box and Teddy Opler headed the ball into the left side. Opler struck again and put CC up 2-0 less than a minute later. Dylan Rich added the Tigers' third goal in 75th minute.

Colorado College outshot Whitworth 18-2 in the match, 14 of those shots coming in the second half.

Both shot opportunities in the game came off the foot of Lucas Diaz. 22 total Pirates appeared in the game, with Ethan Bell and Liam Bia leading the team with 90 and 76 minutes played, respectively.

Dax Flanders made the start at goalkeeper and made four saves in 54 minutes. Henrik Dahlgren entered in the second half and allowed three goals.

The Pirates will look to earn their first win of the season on Sunday against Austin College at 11:00 am (MT).
