The Pirates: Whitworth (3-4) split a pair of non-conference home games last week.

The Pirates pulled out a dramatic 13-12 win over Kalamazoo College (Mich.) last Thursday after Megan Whitman scored the go-ahead goal with 2:31 to play and Kayla Jones made a pair of saves in the final minute to preserve the lead.  The game featured significant swings in momentum after the Hornets led 4-1 early and Whitworth led 12-9 in the fourth quarter.  Campbell Vincent led the way with five goals and an assist.  Whitman, Jordyn Bennett and Rose Frezza each scored two goals.  Bennett also had five draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.  Jones finished with a career-high 15 saves.

Whitworth could not keep up with high-flying Chapman University in a 19-8 loss on Sunday.  The Panthers won 25 of the 30 draw controls to keep possession and turned that into a 35-16 shot advantage.  Vincent finished with three goals and an assist, while Kiera Paulus had two goals and an assist.  Jones made seven saves.

The Opponents: Occidental College is 3-5 heading into Wednesday's game.  The Tigers have not played since a 9-8 victory at Lewis & Clark in Portland on March 14th.  Oxy averages 9.5 goals per game while allowing 13.6.  Senior A Olivia Okamoto has 27 goals and five assists this season, while sophomore Tirzah Rivera has 11 goals and 11 assists.  Whitworth lost to the Tigers 20-6 in Los Angeles in 2023.

Cal Lutheran is 2-6 so far in 2026.  The Regals will play Linfield on Monday before hosting the Bucs on Thursday.  CLU is scoring 7.2 goals per game while giving up 18.4.  Senior M Josie Oparanaku has 19 goals and four assists in 2026, while fellow senior Sydney Shin adds 8 goals and 11 assists.  Whitworth last played CLU in March of 2024, a 17-14 win for the Pirates in Thousand Oaks.

Statistically-speaking:  Whitworth is averaging 10.7 goals per game (4th in the NWC).  The Pirates have allowed 13.1 goals per game, which ranks eighth in the conference.

Scoring Machine:  Campbell Vincent, a junior attacker, is already the most prolific scorer in Whitworth lacrosse history.  Vincent holds single game records for goals (8), assists (5) and points (10).  She carries single-season records for goals (65 in 2025) and points (83 in 2025).  And through 37 career games, she is the Pirates' career leader in goals (146), points (177), shots (247) and shots on-goal (204).  She currently leads the Pirates, and ranks fourth in the NWC, in goals (25) and total points (32).

The Coach: Noelle Brouillard is in her eighth season as head coach at Whitworth, the only seasons the Pirates have been a varsity program.  Since the restart following COVID, Whitworth has shown dramatic improvement each year.  The Bucs went 0-10 in 2021.  They won five times in 2022, went 6-12 in 2023 and broke through with a 12-6 record in 2024, including an 8-4 mark in the NWC.  Last season the Pirates finished 7-7 overall and 4-4 in the NWC, tied for fourth place.

Brouillard came to Whitworth from the University of Scranton, where she was the top women's lacrosse assistant coach for two seasons.  Scranton had a 22-13 record over the two years Brouillard served as assistant coach.  The Royals advanced to the Landmark Conference tournament championship game in 2017 and finished with an 11-6 record.  She played for four seasons at Allegheny College (Pa.), where she was a two-time team captain in 2012 and 2013.

Looking ahead: Whitworth will officially open Northwest Conference play with games at Pacific (Ore.) and George Fox on April 3rd and 4th.
