SPOKANE, Wash. –  The Whitworth men's tennis team heads for warmer weather early next week with a two-match trip to California. The Pirates will visit Redlands on Monday at 4:00 pm and California Lutheran on Tuesday at 3:00 pm.

Check the Whitworth men's tennis schedule page for live links to this weekend's matches.

Watch on FloCollege: All of Whitworth's home and Northwest Conference athletic events will be streamed through FloCollege in 2025-26. Fans can sign up to watch Pirate sports on the FloCollege portal. Registration is $108 for an annual subscription or $20 per month. Those who register with a .edu email address get a significant discount.

The Pirates: The Bucs moved to 6-3 overall and 6-2 in Northwest Conference play after falling 5-2 in a rematch with Whitman last weekend.

Whitworth competed well, earning one more match win than the previous contest with the Blues in mid-February.  Whitman claimed the doubles point, but Matt Hossack and Matt Froslan secured a 6-3 win on the No. 2 court. Froslan earned a singles win in the No. 5 position and Connor Judson extended his singles winning streak to eight with a three-set win on the No. 4 court.

The Opponents: First time opponent Redlands heads into the weekend with a 3-7 overall record. The Bulldogs have played seven consecutive official matches against teams ranked in the ITA top 25 rankings. Sophomore Vitomir Petcov competes in the No. 1 singles position while Gustavo Macanth and MJ Abarca have each competed in the No. 2 spot. Petcov and Abarca pair in the No. 1 doubles position.

California Lutheran is 3-3 overall heading into next week's match. The Kingsmen have three wins over Northwest Conference opponents this season, defeating Pacific (Ore.), Linfield and Puget Sound in a trip to Oregon in February. Ethan Sherwood holds the No. 1 singles position and Raphael Simon holds the No. 2 singles spot. Cal Lutheran swept the Pirates 9-0 the last time they met in 2022.

The NWC Race: Whitman (8-0) controls first place with Whitworth (6-2) holding second. Lewis & Clark (5-3) sits in third while Pacific (5-4) and Linfield (5-4) are tied in fourth. George Fox dropped to 4-4 looking to climb back into the tournament field.

The top four teams in the NWC standings will earn a spot in the NWC Tournament. The tournament will be hosted by the regular season champion.

The Coach: Daniel Redfern enters his third season as head coach of the Whitworth men's tennis program in 2025-26. He holds a 17-30 overall record and 15-14 Northwest Conference mark. Redfern was a two-year standout player for the Pirates, earning first team All-Northwest Conference honors in 2011 and 2012 after transferring to Whitworth from Skagit Valley College.

Looking ahead: The Whitworth men resume NWC action with a pair of home matches against Pacific and Linfield on March 28-29.
