The Pirates: Whitworth (1-2) split a pair of home non-conference games last weekend against Northwest Conference opponents.

The Pirates fell to defending champion George Fox 18-6 on Saturday.  A competitive first quarter got away when the Bruins outscored the Bucs 9-0 in the second period.  George Fox outshot Whitworth 32-13, limiting the Pirates' offensive chances by taking command of draw controls: 16-9, 13-4 after the first quarter.  Campbell Vincent scored two goals and had two assists to lead Whitworth.  Peyton Green and Sierra Witte had one of each.

The Pirates bounced back to defeat visiting Willamette 11-10 on Sunday, the first time Whitworth has ever beaten the Bearcats in 14 contests.  The Bucs outscored Willamette 7-1 in the second quarter, opening a lead as large as 10-4 before holding on down the stretch.  The offense was spread out evenly among four players.  Vincent had three goals and an assist, while Megan Whitman also scored three goals.  Jordyn Bennett finished with two goals and two assists.  Sierra Witte had one goal and three assists.  Charlotte Norton made six saves and earned her first win in net for Whitworth.

The Opponents: Carthage College (Wis.), a member of the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), is making its way to the Pacific Northwest for spring break.  The Firebirds are 3-1 this season and have finished near the top of the conference four years in a row.  Senior Rosie Nolan has ten goals this season, while Auggie Claridge, a junior, and Piper Lefevre, a senior, have eight goals and five assists apiece.  Whitworth has played one other CCIW team, winning 12-8 at North Central (Ill.) last season.

Eastern Oregon, an independent member of the NAIA, is 0-6 so far this season.  The Mountaineers have played all their games against other Northwest Conference opponents, most recently falling at home to Whitman 18-5 on March 4th.  Jade McCoy, a graduate attacker, has 20 goals and six assists this season.  First-year middie Gemma Gonzales has 15 goals and one assist.  Whitworth last played EOU in February of 2025, winning 26-4 and setting a school record for most goals in a match.

Scoring Machine:  Campbell Vincent, a junior attacker, is already the most prolific scorer in Whitworth lacrosse history.  Vincent holds single game records for goals (8), assists (5) and points (10).  She carries single season records for goals (65 in 2025) and points (83 in 2025).  And through 35 career games, she is the Pirates' career leader in goals (130), points (157), shots (220) and shots on-goal (184).

The Coach: Noelle Brouillard is in her eighth season as head coach at Whitworth, the only seasons the Pirates have been a varsity program.  Since the restart following COVID, Whitworth has shown dramatic improvement each year.  The Bucs went 0-10 in 2021.  They won five times in 2022, went 6-12 in 2023 and broke through with a 12-6 record in 2024, including an 8-4 mark in the NWC.  Last season the Pirates finished 7-7 overall and 4-4 in the NWC, tied for fourth place.

Brouillard came to Whitworth from the University of Scranton, where she was the top women's lacrosse assistant coach for two seasons.  Scranton had a 22-13 record over the two years Brouillard served as assistant coach.  The Royals advanced to the Landmark Conference tournament championship game in 2017 and finished with an 11-6 record.  She played for four seasons at Allegheny College (Pa.), where she was a two-time team captain in 2012 and 2013.

Looking ahead: Next week the Pirates will host Kalamazoo (Mich.) on Thursday and Chapman (Calif.) on Sunday in a pair of non-conference contests.
