Box Score SALEM, Ore. – The visiting Whitworth University men's tennis team earned its first win of the season with a 7-0 sweep over Willamette in a Northwest Conference tennis match on Sunday.
The Pirates moved to 1-2 in NWC play (1-3 overall) and won their 14th straight match over the Bearcats (0-5, 0-3 NWC), who have yet to get in the win column this season.
Whitworth won each doubles contest to take the first point of the match. Matt Hossack and Easton Weir got their first win of the season (6-1) in the #3 pairing.
Each singles match was won in two sets and no Bearcat player scored more than three points in a set. Weir dominated in the #4 singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Hossack and Matt Froslan had similar success and secured each of their matches by a score of 6-1, 6-0. Weir, Hossack, Foslan and Ryan Ashley each won their first match of the season.
Whitworth will host Linfield on March 1st and George Fox on March 2nd in its first NWC matches at Scotford Tennis center.
