PORTLAND, Ore. – The Whitworth University swimming teams completed a dominating opening weekend by sweeping a dual meet at Lewis & Clark College on Saturday.
The Pirate women won 10 of the 11 events and defeated the River Otters 155-47. The men won nine of the 11 events and won the meet 151-47.
Kallie Badry won three individual events, while Grace Esteban won two races and was part of a winning relay for Whitworth's women.
Badry swam over 2,500 yards in her three victories. She took first in the 1,650-yard freestyle in 18:11.63. She won the 400-yard individual medley with a time in 4:47.28 and finished on top in the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.38).
Esteban won the 50-yard freestyle in 25.73 and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.30. She also swam the butterfly leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:51.14). Paige Dangleis was also unbeaten on Saturday. She took first in the 100-yard freestyle in 54.74, led off the medley relay and led off the winning 200-yard freestyle relay (1:43.49).
Ben Butler had another strong meet for the Whitworth men, taking first in both the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:02.27) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:55.65). His 500 time was a three-second improvement over Friday night's time.
Parker Dangleis won three times in the meet. He took first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:44.87. He led off the winning 200 medley relay (1:37.32) and the men's 200 free relay (1:27.25). Alex Popov won the 100-yard breaststroke in 59.48 and swam breaststroke on the medley relay.
L&C got a pair of wins from 2025 NWC men's swimmer of the year Ezra Billings in the 50 free (21.22) and 100 free (47.39).
Whitworth is off for a week before taking on George Fox in the home-opening dual on November 14th.
