Men's tennis handles winless Willamette 7-2

SALEM, Ore – Whitworth men's tennis finished off its Northwest Conference schedule on a high note handling Willamette 7-2 on Sunday in Salem.

The Pirates (5-12, 3-4 NWC) will miss the conference tournament for the seventh consecutive season, but they will host Lewis & Clark State on April 13 to close the season. Willamette (0-14, 0-6 NWC) has lost 64 straight matches dating back to 2019. They wrap up their conference slate in Newberg against George Fox on April 14.

After dropping the first doubles match, the #2 pair of Matthew Froslan and Ethan Warring and the #3 pair Jess Weaver and Colby Cinqmars recovered to win 8-2 and 8-5 putting the Pirates in control heading into the singles slate.

In singles, #1 Nathan Tjelle edged Andrew Kabacy 7-5, 6-2, 1-0 (10-1). Warring beat #2 Quentin Nigbur 6-0, 6-2 before #3 Henry Preacher handled AJ Avansino in two sets 6-2, 6-1. Cinqmars beat #5 Andre Lief 6-3, 6-2 and #6 Froslan finished off the match with his second win of the day beating Trey Allen 6-0, 6-2.
