Box Score FOREST GROVE, Ore. – Whitworth men's tennis dropped a tight one at Pacific on Friday night, losing 5-4 in its first of three Northwest Conference matches this weekend.
The Pirates (4-11, 2-3 NWC) have lost 14 straight against Pacific (5-9, 3-1 NWC) and the loss tonight puts Whitworth's hopes of qualifying for the NWC tournament in serious jeopardy, but they'll look to rebound quickly as they prepare for George Fox on Saturday and Willamette on Sunday.
Whitworth took one of three in doubles as #1 Henry Preacher and Nathan Tjelle beat Dawson Hose and Jonathan Nguyen 8-6. In singles, #1 Tjelle got his second win of the match knocking off Joshua Matabuena 6-0, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), #2 Ethan Warring followed that up with a win over Hose 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, before #3 Preacher added to the momentum topping Nguyen 7-5, 6-4.
But the Boxers took the final three matches of the night to claim the victory, including #6 Lucas Fuhrmann's win over Matthew Froslan 6-2, 6-3, 6-3.
