Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth men's tennis dropped its Northwest Conference match on Sunday, falling to Lewis & Clark 7-2 in Portland.
The Pirates (3-7, 2-2 NWC) have lost 18 straight to the Pioneers (7-4, 2-2 NWC) who recovered from a 9-0 loss against Whitman on Saturday.
The #1 duo of Henry Preacher and Nathan Tjelle got the day started well with an 8-5 win over Joseph Lyon and Wade McDermott. The Pioneers #2 and #3 duos were dominant to claim the advantage in doubles. Tjelle accounted for the lone win in singles, knocking off #2 Kai Wills 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, but L&C was spotless from there taking the remaining four matches in two sets. Pirates' #1 Payton Romey took Noah Sutin to three sets but lost 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.
The Pirates will look to get back on the winning end with an exhibition match at home on March 22nd before traveling to Orlando to take on Union, Augustana and DePauw on March 25-27.
