SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth women's lacrosse team will compete in the first-ever Northwest Conference tournament this weekend in Newberg, Oregon as the 4th-seed.
The Pirates will take on host, and top-seeded, George Fox in one semifinal on Saturday at Noon. Second-seeded Whitman will battle third-seeded Willamette in the second semifinal at 3:00 pm.

NWC Tournament Info: The 2023 Northwest Conference playoffs consist of a four-team tournament hosted by regular season champion George Fox in Newberg, Oregon. While the 2023 Northwest Conference championship was decided by regular season play, the 2023 NWC playoffs will determine the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. This is the first conference lacrosse tournament in league history.
The Pirates: Whitworth played its first lacrosse season in 2019 and finished 1-14. The Pirates were 1-2 when the 2020 season was cancelled by COVID-19. The team was winless in 2021 and improved to 5-11, 3-9 in 2022. The 2023 season has seen high-water marks for overall victories (6-11) and NWC wins (4-8). Included in the victory-total this season are first-ever wins over Linfield and Puget Sound. Whitworth has only two seniors on the roster.
Megan Whitman (Fr.) leads the team in goals (31) and points (35). Rebecca Irwin (So.) is second in points (32) and tops the squad with 13 assists. Whitman also leads the team in draw controls (83), while Sierra Witte (Fr.) has 72. Kenzie Hemman (So.) had 38 caused turnovers and 57 ground balls, best mark among Pirate players in both categories.
Sage Fosnock (So.) has played 674 minutes in goal in 2023, while Hannah Lew (So.) has logged 331 minutes.
