Box Score SALEM, Ore. – Whitworth University returned to Northwest Conference men's tennis play with a 7-2 win at Willamette on Saturday evening.
The Pirates (7-9 overall, 2-2 NWC) won their third straight contest.
Whitworth won two of the three doubles matches. Jess Weaver and Lance Dunn made quick work of Andre Lief and Luca Casano 8-2 at #3 doubles. Nathan Tjelle and Ethan Warring defeated Willamette's Andrew Kropp and Quentin Nigbur 8-4 at #2 doubles. The Bearcats got their win at #1 when Andrew Kabacy and Velibor Mladenovic defeated Payton Romey and Henry Preacher 8-5.
The Pirates won five of the six singles contests, the bottom three in dominating fashion. Colby Cinqmars won 6-0, 6-1 at #6 over Lief, and Preacher won by an identical set score against Trey Allen at #5. Weaver nearly made it a trifecta before beating Kropp 6-0, 6-2 at #4.
Romey defeated Nigbur 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 at #3 singles, while Warring rolled past Mladenovic 6-0, 6-3 at #2.
Willamette's win came at the top of the ladder where Kabacy defeated Tjelle 6-1, 6-1.
The Pirates will play at Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday.
