WALLA WALLA, Wash. – The Whitworth University men won 11 of 14 events to claim their final swimming dual meet of the season on Saturday, 158-103 at Whitman College. The Blues defeated the visiting Pirates 173-87 in the women's dual.
Whitworth finishes the men's dual season with a 7-1 record against Northwest Conference opponents. The Pirate women finished 4-4.
Ryan Burch, Noah Clarke, Isaiah Ross and Zachary Washburn all won two individual events apiece. Ross and Washburn were also part of two winning relays.
Whitworth opened the men's meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay. Ty Patterson, Brody Faser, Ross and Washburn went 1:37.90.
Connor Florey followed with a win in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:08.82) and Clarke took first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.13).
Burch and Carl McNabb went first and second in the 100-yard backstroke with times of 55.31 and 55.76, respectively. Washburn followed with a win in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.69) and Ross gave the Bucs six straight event wins in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.40).
Washburn won the 50-yard free on short rest in 21.34. Burch followed with a win in the 100-yard freestyle in 49.26.
After Whitman won its first two events of the meet (200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke), Clarke ended the Blue's rally with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.55).
Ross added his second individual win with a time of 52.43 in the 100-yard butterfly.
Washburn, Ross, Clarke and Burch closed the meet with a time of 3:15.58 to win the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Whitworth got four wins in the women's meet. Chamelle Abringe took first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:20.12. Carly Hoff sprinted to first place in the 50 freestyle (25.23). Eve Ihde touched first in the 100 butterfly (1:05.25).
Hoff, Sarah Doncevic, Taylor Thorne and Abringe closed the meet with victory in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:47.29.
Whitworth will have a weekend off before competing at the 2023 Northwest Conference Championships (Feb. 9-12) at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
