Pirate swimmers score in three events on Friday

INDIANAPOLIS – Whitworth University scored points in all three of its events on Friday at the 2022 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships at the IUPUI Natatorium.

Emma Thompson and Ryan Grady made the consolation finals in their respective individual events and the men's 800-yard freestyle relay finished 13th.

Thompson, the only Pirate woman at the meet, finished 16th in the women's 100-yard backstroke.  She snuck into the consolation final in 16th place with a time of 56.67 on Friday morning, then posted the exact same time in the evening consolation. 

Grady finished 11th in the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a career-best time of 54.59.  He went 54.63 during the morning preliminaries to get into the evening consolation heat.  Grady previously scored in the 200-yard individual medley on Wednesday.

Grady was joined by Zachary Washburn, Finn McClone and Jake Goguen on the 800 free relay.  The Pirates went 6:40.67 in the morning, which held up for 13th place. 

Whitworth's men are in 27th place with 22 points.

The meet concludes on Saturday with a busy day for the Pirates.  Thompson will race in the women's 200-yard backstroke, while Grady competes in the men's 200-yard breaststroke.  Goguen and Washburn are entered in the men's 100-yard freestyle.  The Whitworth men will conclude the meet in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
