TACOMA, Wash. – Whitworth University got three more event victories on Sunday during the final night of competition at the Logger Invitational swimming meet.
Isaiah Ross won the 500-yard freestyle and finished second in the 100-yard butterfly, while Zachary Washburn posted his second NCAA qualifying mark and Carly Hoff picked up her second individual victory.
With a total of four individual men's victories and two women's victories this weekend, the Bucs finished second overall in the men's meet and fourth in the women's competition.
Ross led a 1-2-3 finish for the Pirate men in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:46.72. Connor Florey, who was the winner of the 1,650-yard freestyle on Friday, finished second in 4:47.08 and Noah Clark (4:49.58) was third.
Ross went on to finish as the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 50.28.
Washburn raced to a win in the men's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.41, a new school record and an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark that currently ranks among the top five in the nation. He added that to Saturday's win in the 50-yard freestyle.
Hoff posted the same double as Washburn, winning the women's 100 freestyle with a season-best mark of 52.48. She was also champion of the 50 free on Saturday night.
The men's final team scores were: Southwestern Oregon CC 909.5, Whitworth 722, Whitman 637.5, Puget Sound 513, Pacific Lutheran 186.
The final women's scores were: Puget Sound 722, Whitman 662, Southwestern Oregon CC 643, Whitworth 476, Pacific Lutheran 405.
Whitworth will take a break for final exams and the winter holiday. After the winter training trip, the Pirates will host Southwestern Oregon in a pair of non-conference dual meets on Jan. 6-7.
