SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth swimming teams returned to action for the first time since early December with a pair of dominating performances against visiting Pacific University on Friday night.
The Pirate men defeated the Boxers 134-27, winning all 11 events. The women won 132-57 with nine event victories.
Ryan Grady had three fast individual performances in the meet. He had his fastest 200-yard breaststroke time of the season with a mark of 2:01.16. He was just off his best time in the 200-yard I.M. (1:51.75) and also won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:00.56.
Zachary Washburn was nearly as dominant. He just missed season-best marks while winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.35) and 100-yard freestyle (46.39). He also anchored the winning 400-yard freestyle relay to a time of 3:14.14.
Noah Clark also won twice for Whitworth, claiming the 1000-yard freestyle (10:44.88) and 500-yard freestyle (5:09.91).
Emma Thompson and Ryann Reid each won two individual events and were part of winning relays for the women.
Thompson won the 200 I.M. in 2:11.59 and the 200 backstroke in 2:06.68. She led off the winning 400 free relay that finished in 4:00.54.
Reid took first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:19.08) and the 500 freestyle (5:30.73). She swam the butterfly leg on the winning 400-yard medley relay (4:12.72).
Whitworth will return to action next weekend when the Pirates host Seattle University on Friday night and Whitman College on Saturday in the final dual meets of the year.
