TACOMA, Wash. – Puget Sound scored late in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and earn the victory over visiting Whitworth in Sunday's Northwest Conference men's soccer match at Baker Stadium.

Just a day after Whitworth (3-5-1, 3-5-1 NWC) came back from a 1-0 deficit at the half, Puget Sound (3-6-2, 3-6-2) did the same, scoring twice in the second half to conclude the season series. The Pirates finished with a 2-1-1 record over the Loggers this season.

Victor Loyola got the Pirates on the scoreboard in the 19th minute, sliding a shot into the lower right corner of the net. Dominic Gusman found Loyola with a long pass down the right side of the field for the assist. It was Loyola's second goal of the weekend.

UPS scored the equalizer eight and a half minutes into the second half. Cade Bennett's shot was saved by Whitworth goalkeeper Bo Broyles, but Marko Babiak sent in the rebound.

The Loggers took the 2-1 lead late in the second half. Tyler Zamira scored off a corner kick taken by Sean Hamel in the 82nd minute.

Whitworth edged UPS in shots, 12-11, and both sides finished with five shots on goal. Broyles finished with three saves for the Pirates, while Andrew Matheny totaled four for the Loggers.

The Pirates close the season with a pair of matches at Whitman next weekend.
