TACOMA, Wash. – Whitworth took an early lead but settled for a 1-1 draw against Puget Sound in Sunday's Northwest Conference men's soccer season finale at Baker Stadium.
The Pirates finished fourth in the conference standings with a 7-4-5 NWC record (7-5-5 overall). The Loggers (7-7-5, 6-6-4 NWC) finished in fifth.
The Bucs struck in the third minute as Ryland Crane send a cross to the far post where Jordan Voigt headed in his second goal of the season. Whitworth took the lead into halftime despite a 6-4 shot advantage for UPS in the first frame.
Both teams battled in a physical second half that included seven total yellow cards. Puget Sound's Rhys Foote took advantage of the physicality and earned a penalty kick that he converted to tie the game in the 67th minute. The Pirates took a free kick near the corner late in the match but couldn't get a shot towards the net.
The Loggers outshot the Bucs 13-8 and finished with a 6-1 advantage in shots on goal. Although the result was a goal, Whitworth's one shot on target was a season low.
Lucas Diaz was the only Pirate with more than one shot in the match (2). Six Bucs each had one. Goalkeeper Aiden Chase made five saves.
Foote led the UPS attack with four shots and Alonzo Flores-Barajas added a pair of shots on goal.
The Whitworth men will begin the 2026 season next August.
