SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University seniors Colten Chelin and Jaylen Gonzales were named to the D3football.com 2021 All-Region 6 football team today as second team honorees.

Chelin was previously selected as a first team All-Northwest Conference honoree.  The 2018 NWC Freshman of the Year, Chelin never missed a start, not to mention a game, in his four seasons.  He finished with eight interceptions and 25 passes defended in his career.  This fall he had 31 tackles, two interceptions and nine passes defended.

Gonzales was first team All-NWC in 2018 and 2021, but suffered through injury-played campaigns in 2019 and 2020-21.  Gonzales was impactful all over the field this fall with 59 tackles, including 6.5 for losses of 20 yards, an interception, five pass breakups, a fumble recovery and several forced fumbles.

The pair helped lead Whitworth to a 7-3 record in 2021, the eighth straight winning season for the Pirates under head coach Rod Sandberg, the longest stretch of winning seasons in school history.
