TACOMA, Wash. – The Whitworth University men's swimming team completed its weekend in Tacoma with a sweep, defeating Puget Sound 110-91 on Saturday afternoon. The Logger women defeated the Pirate women 117-88.
Whitworth's men improved to 2-0 by winning seven of the 11 events, led by Isaiah Ross and Ryan Grady, who had two individual wins apiece.
Ross took first in the 100-yard butterfly in 52.91. Only minutes later he touched first in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:59.37. Grady crushed the field in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:42.93, leading a 1-2-3 finish for the Pirates. He added a win in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.75).
Whitworth also got individual victories from Connor Florey in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:02.59) and Ryan Burch in the 50-yard freestyle (22.24). Burch was joined on the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team by Ty Patterson, Camren Langdon and Finn McClone for a time of 1:25.33.
The Whitworth women (0-2) won three events against UPS. The Pirates opened the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay when Emma Thompson, Isabella Hackney, Sarah Doncevic and Carly Hoff posted a time of 1:51.28.
Ryann Reid won the 400-yard individual medley in 4:50.86 and Thompson won the 100-yard backstroke in 57.51. Reid was a close second in the 500 freestyle, while Thompson was runner-up in the 200 freestyle.
The Pirate teams will be back in action on November 20th at home against Willamette.
