PARKLAND, Wash. – The Whitworth University men won all 11 events to open the Northwest Conference swimming dual meet season with a 138-54 win at Pacific Lutheran on Friday night. The PLU women defeated the Pirates 113-91.
Whitworth will compete at Puget Sound on Saturday afternoon.
Connor Florey, Isaiah Ross and Ryan Grady all won a pair of individual events for the Pirate men. Finn McClone won once and was part of both winning relays.
Whitworth's men opened the meet with a victory in the 400-yard medley relay by McClone, Grady, Ross and Ryan Burch with a time of 3:38.44.
Ross went on to win the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.01 and the 200-yard butterfly in 2:06.50. Grady took first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.99) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:07.97).
Florey won both the 1000-yard freestyle (10:14.61) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:04.61).
McClone took first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.74) and also anchored the closing 400-yard freestyle relay to a time of 3:18.55. Burch, Camren Langdon and Jacob Goguen were also part of that relay.
Goguen won the 100-yard freestyle in 49.69. Jorgen Midboe was first in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:06.50.
Whitworth's women opened the meet with a first place in the medley relay after PLU's quartet was disqualified. Taylor Thorne, Ashtyn Peterson, Sarah Doncevic and Jessica DeFiesta had a time of 4:20.91.
Emma Thompson won the 1000 freestyle in 11:36.30 and took first in the 200 medley relay in 2:13.61. She was second in the 500 freestyle.
PLU won eight of the 11 women's events.
