NEWBERG, Ore. – Whitworth University swimming won eight out of 13 events and took first place in both the men's and women's team standings in the Northwest Conference Relay Invitational on Saturday, hosted by George Fox University.
The final women's team scores were: Whitworth 186, Linfield 168, Puget Sound 162, Willamette 150, Pacific (Ore.) 144, George Fox 140. The men's team scores were: Whitworth 186, Linfield 172, Puget Sound 170, George Fox 148, Willamette 144, Pacific (Ore.) 78.
The women won three relays, the men won three and the Pirates won a pair of mixed races.
Emma Thompson, Sarah Doncevic and Taylor Thorne won the women's 300-yard backstroke relay in 3:01.07. Jillian Larrabee Ryann Reid, Carly Hoff and Thompson won the 500-yard freestyle relay in 4:48.74. Reid, Doncevic and Isabella Hackney took first in the 300-yard I.M. relay with a time of 3:11.77.
Zachary Bevans, Isaiah Ross and Conor Florey earned the first men's win with a time of 2:39.12 in the 300-yard butterfly relay. Ryan Burch, Finn McClone, Ross and Ryan Grady won the 500 freestyle relay in 4:11.14. Ty Patterson, Florey and Ross touched first in the 300 I.M relay in 2:47.30.
Zachary Washburn, Grady, Larrabee and Hackey won the mixed 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:35.30. Washburn, McClone, Thompson and Hoff closed the meet with a dominating win in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:25.78).
Whitworth will open the dual meet schedule next Friday and Saturday at Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound, respectively.
