Whitworth Men Settle for 2-2 Draw

TYLER, Texas – Sam Selisch scored twice in the Whitworth men's soccer season opener, but the visiting Pirates had to settle for a 2-2 tie at the University of Texas – Tyler on Saturday afternoon.

Enoch Shipman scored in the 90th minute to give the Patriots the tie.

Shane Nishioka-Healy made ten saves in goal during his debut for Whitworth.  According to the statistics provided by the host school, Tyler outshot Whitworth 25-10 in the match, including a 12-7 edge in shots on goal.

Selisch gave Whitworth a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute and the Pirates took that lead into halftime.

Parker Hood tied the match for the Patriots in the 60th minute, but that tie was short-lived as Selisch tallied his second goal of the match a little over a minute later.

Whitworth held that lead until Shipman tied it on an assist from David Lopez-Molinar with 47 seconds to play in regulation.

Each team took five shots in the 20 minutes of extra play, but neither team got the match-deciding goal.

Whitworth has to turn around quickly for a 10:00 am (CDT) match on Sunday morning against Mary Hardin-Baylor, which will be played at the UTT campus.
