LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Whitworth University freshman Peyton Simonds earned his first medalist finish as a Pirate on Sunday at the Washington Cup hosted by the University of Puget Sound at Oakbrook Golf and Country Club.
Simonds shot a round of 73 (+2) to win the single day event by one stroke over Puget Sound's Drew Spitzer and Whitman's Eshan Singh.
Pacific Lutheran shot 305 to win the team event by two strokes. Whitworth, Whitman and Puget Sound all shot 307 to tie for second place.
Matthew Durkin finished fifth with a score of 75, while Kellen Maioho was 12th with a 77. Andy Hobson (82) was 25th and Tanner Smith (84) was 31st.
Max Hosfield and Rhett Nordberg, both competing as non-scoring independents, tied for 18th with rounds of 79.
The Pirates will be back in action at the LCSC Warrior Spring Classic hosted by Lewis-Clark State College at Red Wolf GC in Clarkston next Monday and Tuesday (March 16-17).
