NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – Bouncing back from a rough first round, the Whitworth men's golf team posted the league's second-best team score on Monday to move up two spots in the final standings at the 2026 Northwest Conference Tournament, hosted by Pacific University at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.
After posting a team score of 307 on Sunday that dropped the Pirates into ninth place, Whitworth shot 294 on Monday to move into seventh place in the final standings. The 294 was the second-best score in the tournament's second round, behind only league-champion Willamette's 282.
The final team scores were: Willamette 560, Linfield 574, Whitman 581, Lewis & Clark 591, Pacific Lutheran 594, George Fox 598, Whitworth 601, Pacific (Ore.) 602, Puget Sound 606.
Max Hosfeld led the Pirates with a top-five individual finish. He shot 72-71 – 143 (+1) to tie for fifth place with three other players. Linfield's Douglas Bailey shot 68-69 – 137 (-5) to win the medal in a playoff with Willamette's Brock Olson, who had the same score each day.
Peyton Simonds finished tied for 12th after shooting 75-71 – 146. He moved up 12 spots on Monday. Matthew Durkin bounced back from a rough Sunday to finish 81-71 – 152 in a tie for 28th place. He moved up 15 spots in the standings on Monday.
Andrew Hobson (80-81 – 162) and Cooper Smith (80-82 – 162) finished in 43rd and 44th, respectively.
With its victory at the NWC Tournament, Willamette overcame Linfield in the final conference standings. Based on cumulative strokes over the course of the three league events, Willamette finished with 1,735 strokes to defeat Linfield by 11 shots (1,746). Whitman finished third (1,754). Whitworth finished seventh in the final standings with a cumulative score of 1,802.
