LAKEWOOD, Wash. – Whitworth University slipped to eighth place on Sunday at the men's 2026 Northwest Conference Spring Classic hosted by Puget Sound at Oakbrook Golf and Country Club.

The Pirates posted a two-day total of 303-302 – 605.  They were in a tie for sixth place following Saturday's round and Whitworth now stands in sixth place in the overall conference standings.

The final team scores were: Linfield 579, Whitman 587, George Fox 595, Willamette 598, Pacific Lutheran 601, Puget Sound 604, Lewis & Clark 604, Whitworth 605, Pacific (Ore.) 613.

Max Hosfeld was in contention for medalist honors after shooting a 70 (-1) on Saturday.  He followed with a 78 on Sunday for a total of 148 (+6) to tie for ninth place.

Linfield's Douglas Bailey won the medal with a final score of 71-68 – 139 (-3).  He was the only player under par and won by five strokes.

Kallen Maioho shot 76-75 – 151 to tie for 17th.  Peyton Simonds (78-75 – 153) tied for 28th and Matthew Durkin (80-74 – 154) tied for 31st.  Rhett Nordberg (79-80 – 159) tied for 42nd.

The Spring Classic results shuffled the conference standings that had stood since the Fall Classic.  The 2025-26 NWC title will be determined by cumulative strokes over the three counting conference events.  The final event is the 2026 NWC Tournament in two weeks.

After this weekend's win, Linfield now holds a one stroke lead over Whitman and a three-stroke lead over Willamette.  The NWC standings, based on total strokes, are: Linfield 1,172, Whitman 1,173, Willamette 1,175, Pacific Lutheran 1,195, Whitworth 1,201, Lewis & Clark 1,210, Pacific (Ore.) and Puget Sound 1,234.

The Pirates will be back in action at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Linfield next Sunday and Monday (April 12-13).
