SPOKANE, Wash. – Seven Whitworth University student-athletes will compete this week at the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meet runs Thursday through Saturday at The SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
Five women and two men will compete this weekend. Amblessed Okemgbo is the only Pirate student-athlete who will compete in more than one event, the discus and shot put. The discus takes place on Thursday at 10:00 am (PDT) and the shot put is on Friday at 11:00 am (PDT). Okemgbo is a returning All-American in the discus after finishing sixth in 2024. She became an Indoor Track & Field All-American in the shot put in March.
Madison Carr will join Okemgbo in the shot put on Friday. Devyn Chelin returns to throw the javelin on Thursday at 12:30 pm (PDT).
Brianna Tira will high jump on Friday, beginning at 8:30 am (PDT). Emily Brown will race in the preliminaries of the women's 400-meter hurdles on Thursday at 3:25 pm (PDT). If Brown qualifies for the finals, that heat takes place on Saturday at 12:25 pm (PDT).
For the men, Cody Wheeler returns to defend his national championship in the javelin. That event is on Thursday at 2:45 (PDT). Eddie Vu returns to compete the discus. He will be the first Pirate in action this week (Thursday at 7:30 am PDT).
All seven Pirates are shooting for All-American honors. The top eight finishers in any event score points and earn NCAA All-America status. The next eight earn honorable mention All-American recognition.
