SPOKANE, Wash. – The 2025 Whitworth baseball season will open as scheduled this weekend, but with a change of venue.  The Pirates will host Eastern Oregon University at Steve Hertz Field on the campus of Gonzaga University in a four-game non-conference series on Saturday, Feb. 15 and Sunday, Feb. 16.

Whitworth's Merkel Field is unplayable due to recent snows and cold weather.  Gonzaga's field is 100% Field Turf, allowing for plowing the entire surface.  In addition, the dugouts at Steve Hertz field are heated.

The teams will play a doubleheader each day, beginning at 11:00 am.  The first game each day is scheduled for nine innings, while the second is schedule for seven.

The Pirates are coming off a 28-14 record in 2024.  The Mountaineers are 2-2 in 2025 after splitting a four-game series at Park University (Ariz.) last weekend.
