Pirate women take third at Pacific Invite

NORTH PLAINS, Ore. – Whitworth University finished in third place in its first tournament of the season against NCAA Division III foes on Saturday and Sunday at the Pacific University Invitational hosted at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club.

The Pirates finished behind nationally-ranked George Fox and Lewis & Clark.  Whitworth came into Sunday in third place, but made a move in the first half of the round and moved into second place and within six shots of the lead.  The team could not keep the momentum and slipped back into third place down the stretch.

The Pirates had an extremely balanced effort.  Ashley Maki led the Bucs with a final score of 78-81 – 159 to tie for 8th place.  Stella Fergin and Carolyn Rose shot identical rounds of 79-81 – 160 to tie for 11th place.  Rosalind Nordberg (76-87 – 163) tied for 18th place and Erin Pierce (83-89 – 172) tied for 28th place.

L&C's Ahika Jani earned the medal with a final score of 70-78 – 148 (+7).

The final team scores were: George Fox 622, Lewis & Clark 638, Whitworth 642, Pacific (Ore.) 658, Coll. of Idaho 665, Puget Sound 669, Pacific (B team) 692, Linfield 752.

The Pirates will return to action on October 12-13 at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic in Lake Oswego, Oregon.
