Pirate women rally to 4th place at NWC Fall Classic

LAKE OSWEGO, Ore. – The Whitworth women's golf team posted the field's best score on Monday, and the second-best one-day team score of the tournament, to rally into fourth place in the final standings at the 2025 Northwest Conference Fall Classic, hosted by Lewis & Clark College at Oswego Lakes Country Club.

Playing in wet and windy weather conditions, the Pirates shot a team score of 341 on Sunday and were in fifth place.  Even though the weather did not improve on Monday, Whitworth improved to a score of 327, the best of any school on the second day, to move up into fourth place.  Only George Fox's round of 319 on Sunday was better.  But most importantly, the Bucs are only eight strokes behind fall champion GFU and within striking distance heading into the spring season.

The final team scores were: George Fox 660, Pacific (Ore.) 664, Whitman 666, Whitworth 668, Lewis & Clark 672, Puget Sound 711, Linfield 730, Pacific Lutheran incomplete, Willamette incomplete.

Carolyn Rose shot 80-81 – 161 in the tough conditions to finish in fourth place.  George Fox's Katelyn Lam was the individual champion with a final score of 77-76 – 153 (+7).

Rosalind Nordberg had the best finish of her Pirate career.  She took sixth place after shooting 84-82 – 166.  Stella Fergin tied for ninth place (87-81 – 168), giving the Bucs three players among the top ten.  Ashley Maki (92-83 – 175) tied for 23rd and Emory Crawley (90-100 – 190) finished 35th.

The 2025 NWC Fall Classic counts as one-third of the final tally toward the 2025-26 conference standings.  The league championship is based on cumulative results from the Fall Classic, NWC Spring Classic and NWC Tournament.

Whitworth will complete its fall schedule next weekend at the Confluence Classic in Walla Walla.
