Pair of Pirates improve national marks at Last Chance meet

SPOKANE, Wash. – Cody Wheeler improved his nation-leading mark in the javelin and Eddie Vu may have earned his own ticket to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field championships today at the Whitworth Last Chance meet.

Wheeler hurled the javelin 223'-9" to improve his NCAA DIII-leading mark in the event.  It is his also his own personal record.  Cameron Ditter (172'-1") also had a PR in the men's javelin.

Vu threw the discus 169'-0", a personal record.  His mark now ranks 14th in on the Division III list.  Renat Mamikanyan Jr. also hit a PR (141'-5") in the discus.

Cooper Rolfs won the men's 400-meter dash with his own personal record of 49.75.  Kainoa Figueira (51.25) was second. 

Whitworth's men posted the top three places in the 1,500-meter run.  Alex Peters (3:59.96) finished first, Isaac Akiyama (4:02.95) took second and Matt Buckley (4:04.05, PR) finished third.

Whitworth also won several events on the women's side, but had no improvements in times or marks.

Amelia Hewson won the 100 hurdles in 14.77, while Alison Ball wont he 200 meter dash in 25.33.  Abby Crossley took first in the 10,000 meters (39:55.97).  The women's 4x100 relay (47.23) just missed improving their season-best mark (47.10).

In the field, Amblessed Okemgbo finished first in the discus (145'-3") while Renee Tiumalu won the shot put (44'-3.25") won the shot put with Okemgbo (41'-4.25") second.  Bree Rawls won the high jump by clearing 5'-3.25".
