Pirates impress against strong field at the 2026 Peace Meet

SPOKANE, Wash. – Competing against the best and biggest from the Inland Northwest and beyond, the Whitworth track and field teams posted two event victories, several personal records and eight top-20 marks in NCAA Division III on Friday at the Whitworth Peace meet on Boppell Track.

Madison Carr won the women's hammer throw with a mark of 175'-7", which now ranks fifth in NCAA Division III.  Amblessed Okemgbo was third in the shot put (46'-4.75") with a mark that now leads all of NCAA Div. III and is less than three inches off her school record.  Carr took fifth in the event with a distance (45'-7") that is fifth in DIII.

Shaloma McCoy finished fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 37'-1", while Cadence Lorenz took seventh with a PR mark of 34'-7.5".  Mallory Elliott was 11th in the long jump with a distance of 16'-7.25".

Emily Brown was a star on the track for the Pirate women, running to a season-best time of 1:03.82 in the 400-meter hurdles.  That time is now 11th in Div. III.  Marlee Paget posted a PR with a time of 1:07.82. Brown went on to run a 16.33 in the women's 100-meter hurdles.

Hope Madill hit a season-best in the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 1:01.61, while Hannah Higens surpassed her personal record in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:14.76). 

Whitworth's women got a season-best time in the 4x100 relay with a time of 48.25 that is now 16th in Division III.

The Steeplechase was a highlight for Whitworth's men.  Jack Ireton won the event with a personal record time of 9:10.50 that now ranks fifth in NCAA Division III.  London Haley went 14:42.82 in a deep field of men's 5K runners to finish 11th with a PR that ranks 16th in DIII. 

Brady Oletzke went a season-best 15.22 in the men's 110-meter hurdles and a 57.53 in the 400 hurdles.  Austin May sprinted to a 10.98 in the 100-meter dash and a 22.73 in the 200-meters, which is a season-best.  Carter Sherry hit a personal record in the men's 800-meters with a time of 1:56.08.

Out in the field, Adam Sessions closed out the meet for Whitworth's men with a runner-up finish in the hammer throw, posting a personal record mark of 184'-10" that ranks ninth in Division III.  Cody Wheeler's third-place finish in the javelin throw came due to a season-best mark of 213'-2" that is fifth in Div. III. 

Na'I Kaanapu cleared 43'-5" to take seventh in the men's triple jump.  Kaden Hooper was 10th (43'-0.25").

The Pirate teams will be back in action next Friday when Whitworth hosts the Jeff Rahn Classic.
