Pirates compete in Oregon on Friday and Saturday

PORTLAND, Ore. – Twenty members of the Whitworth track and field team competed at three different meets over two days in Oregon on Friday and Saturday. 

At the Portland Twilight, hosted at Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, Amelia Hewson posted a season-best time in the 100-meter hurdles with a first place finish of 14.41.  Daniel Watts also had a first place in the men's 400 hurdles in 57.30.  Madelyn Buckley got the Pirates' only PR of the day with her time of 18:00.43 while finishing 24th in the 5,000 meters.

There were no PRs or season-bests at the Linfield Open in McMinnville on Saturday. Renee Tiumalu and Amblessed Okemgbo each won throwing events.  Tiumalu won the shot put with a mark of 40'-3.5", with Okemgbo fourth (38'-7.5") and Izzy Boyd fifth (38'-3.5").  Okemgbo won the discus throw with a distance of 136'-2".  The women's 4x100 relay was runner-up in a time of 48.00, nearly one second off the team's season-best mark (47.10).

Seven Pirates competed at the University of Oregon Twilight on Friday night in Eugene.  No season-bests or PRs occurred at that meet as well.  Jordan Lungo went 12.46 in the 100-meters and Alison Ball posted a 25.15 in the 200 dash.  Hewson ran the 100 hurdles in 14.51 and Watts came home in 57.19 in the 400 hurdles.  Isaac Akiyama (1:54.40) and Kainoa Figueira (1:55.94) ran in the men's 800-meters.

Several Pirates will compete on Wednesday's Whitworth Last Chance meet in the Pine Bowl.
