SPOKANE, Wash. – Nine Whitworth University student-athletes will compete this week at the 2024 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meet runs Thursday through Saturday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Seven women and two men will compete this weekend. Amelia Hewson is the only Pirate who will compete in more than one event. She will race in the preliminary heats of the women's 100-meter hurdles on Friday at 1:10 pm (PDT). If she advances to the championship final, that race will take place on Saturday at 1:50 pm.
Hewson, Alison Ball, Jordyn Lungo and Isabella Pereira will race in the prelims of the women's 4x100-meter relay on Thursday at 2:15. The finals of that relay will take place on Saturday at 1:05 pm.
Three Whitworth women will compete in throwing events. Devyn Chelin will throw the javelin on Thursday at 8:00 am. Amblessed Okemgbo will toss the discus on Thursday at noon. Renee Tiumalu will compete in the shot put on Friday at 1:00 pm.
The two Pirate men's competitors are also throwers. Eddie Vu throws the discus on Thursday at 8:00 am, while Cody Wheeler will hurl the javelin on Thursday at noon.
Wheeler enters the meet with this season's best mark in Division III – 223'-9". He is the highest-ranked Pirate. The top eight finishers in any event score points and earn NCAA All-America status.
