SPOKANE, Wash. – Solo Hines set his sights on the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships with a new school record and national qualifying mark in the 200-meter dash at the Whitworth Indoor Invitational at the Podium this weekend.

Hines finished third in the 200 with a time of 21.59, shattering his previous school record mark of 21.99 and posting the third-best time in Division III this season.  That mark is almost certain to punch his ticket to the national championships.

Hines also finished third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.82.

There were two other school records on Saturday.  Jordan Lungo broke the Whitworth record in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.79, knocking off teammate Amelia Hewson who went 7.84 last season.  Lungo's time is currently 33rd in Division III.  Alison Ball was close behind with a time of 7.87.

Alex Peters broke his second school record this season with a time of 8:39.03 in the 3,000 meters.  He broke the record by ten seconds and finished ninth in the race.  London Haley (8:47.06) also would have been under the previous record and finished 11th.  Peters went on to also take fifth place in the mile with a time of 4:18.36.

James Dugenet set a personal record with a time of 15:35.36 to take fifth place in the 5,000 meters.  Kainoa Figuiera hit a PR in the men's 800 meters with a time of 1:57.22.  Figuiera led off the 4x400 relay to a time of 3:31.79.

Lily Jones posted a personal-best time (2:21.96) in the women's 800 meters to finish in 14th place.

The Pirates had some solid performances in the field as well.  Renee Tiumalu finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 41'-1.5".  Isabella Pereira went 33'-11.25" in the triple jump for sixth place.

Zaanan Bane cleared 43'-1.5" in the men's triple jump for 8th place.  Riley Flanagan posted a 21'-0.5" long jump for tenth place.

JJ Martin and Eli Cach competed in the men's heptathlon and posted scores of 3980 and 3798, respectively.  Breanne Rawls had a score of 2996 in the women's pentathlon on Friday.

Except for the handful of Pirates who qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 8-9 in Virginia Beach, Whitworth will now turn its attention to outdoor competition beginning with the Ed Boitano Invite at Puget Sound on March 1-2.
