School record highlights T&F at own meet in the Podium

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Whitworth track and field teams got solid performances while hosting the Inland Northwest Invite on Saturday at the Podium in downtown Spokane.

Alex Peters led the way for the Pirate men with a first place finish and new Whitworth school record in the 5,000-meter run with a  time of 15:25.18, breaking the old school mark of 15:30.94 set by Aaron Jenkins in 2010.  Tyler Eakin also had a PR while taking third in 15:36.32.

Solo Hines took third in the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 6.89.  He went 6.85 in the qualifying heats.

Cooper Rolfs posted two strong marks.  He finished eighth in the 400-meter dash in 51.51, then posted a personal record while taking 12th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.70. 

Isaac Akiyama had another personal record for the Bucs, when he took 11th in the mile with a time of 4:25.61. 

The Pirate men closed the meet with a time of 3:30.51 to take fourth in the 4x400-meter relay. 

In the field, Riley Flanagan finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 21'-5.25".  Eddie Vu hit his PR in the shot put (44'-3.5").

Amelia Hewson led the Pirate women with a fifth place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.93.  Abby Crossley hit a PR while taking 10th in the 3,000-meters in 10:50.03. 

Renee Tiumalu led the Pirate women in the field with her fourth place finish in the shot put (40'-7.5").  Isabella Pereira took seventh in the triple jump (34'-4"), while Briana Tira was 11th in the long jump (15'-8.75").

Whitworth will be back at the Podium next weekend for the Riverfront Invite and Multi-Event meet, which runs Thursday through Saturday.
