WOODBURN, Ore. – The Whitworth men's golf team is in third place following the opening day of the 2023 Northwest Conference Tournament, but the Pirates are in the hunt as the top three teams are separated by only three strokes at the Oregon Golf Association golf course.
George Fox University is hosting the tournament.
The Pirates shot 294 (+6) to trail Whitman (291) and Willamette (292). All three schools can win the 2023 Northwest Conference title heading into this tournament following results at the 2022 NWC Fall Classic and 2023 NWC Spring Classic.
Jacob Rawley is tied for third place after his round of 71 (-1) on Saturday. Sam Pauly and Oliver Nordberg are tied for 10th place following their rounds of 74. Matthew Durkin (75) is tied for 17th and Caden Martinsen (77) is 22nd.
George Fox's Brenden Borck and Willamette's Oliver Smith are tied for the individual lead following rounds of 69.
The tournament continues on Sunday.
