MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Sam Pauly tied for first place to lead the Whitworth University men to a sixth place finish among a strong field at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate hosted by Huntingdon College at Wynlakes Golf and Country Club.
The tournament was condensed to one round on Tuesday after Monday's play was canceled by severe weather.
Pauly tied with six other players for first place with a score of 69 (-3). He birded four holes on the back nine before posting one bogey on the front. Foster Wood of Rhodes College sank a 40-foot birdie put to win the playoff.
The field featured five teams ranked among the top-25 in the latest Golfstat men's Division III top 25. The final team scores were: (#13) Washington & Lee 284 (-4), (#8) Piedmont 285, (#14) Huntingdon 287, (#4) Wittenberg 289, Rhodes 291, Whitworth 292 (+4), Dallas 294, Huntingdon B 295, Birmingham Southern 298, Mary Hardin-Baylor 299, Berry 300, Centre 301, (#18) Greensboro 302, LaGrange 304, Webster 323.
Jacob Rawley shot even-par 72 to finish tied for 13th. Aaron Storem posted a 73 to tie for 21st. Matthew Durkin (78) tied for 56th and Gabe Cach (82) tied for 69th.
Whitworth returns home to host the Northwest Conference Spring Classic next weekend at The Links Golf Club in Post Falls.
