PORTLAND, Ore. – Whitworth University got four season-best marks and a pair of event victories at two different track and field meets on Saturday.  The Pirate throwers competed at the Linfield Open in McMinnville while the runners raced at the Portland Twilight at Lewis & Clark College.

Whitworth's women continued to flex their muscles in the throwing events at Linfield on Saturday.  One day after improving her personal-best mark in the discus by six feet at the Oregon Twilight, Lauryn Rawls tied for first in the same event at Linfield with a distance of 137"-7", her second-best mark of the season.

Renee Tiumalu finished second in the women's shot put with a season-best mark of 40'-10.5", which surpassed her previous season-best by six inches.  Tiumalu also finished 16th in the women's hammer throw (121'-11").

Abbie Jo Carlson competed in two events as well, taking fourth in the hammer (155'-2") and sixth in the discus (120'-5").

Reed Hurst finished fourth in both the men's discus (144'-1") and men's shot put (47'-7.75").  Luke Davis was sixth in the discus (133'-5").

Ignacio Garcia came close to matching his season best while finishing fourth in the hammer.  His toss of 156'-5" was only two feet short of his PR.

Over at L&C, Solo Hines sprinted to a time of 11.15 to finish first in the men's 100-meter dash.

Kainoa Figuiera and James Dugenet both posted season-best marks.  Figuiera went 1:56.79 in the 800-meter run to shave .26 of a second off of his previous mark.  Dugenet crossed the line in 9:41.70 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to improve by just over seven seconds from the time he posted at the NWC Championships two weeks ago.

Matthew Christianson closed the night for the Bucs with a time of 15:17.50 in the 5,000-meter run, surpassing his season-best by over six seconds.

Alison Ball went 25.68 in the women's 200-meter dash to finish in fourth place.  Her time was only one-tenth off her season-best.  Madelyn Buckley finished the 1,500-meter run in 4:48.74, just over a second off her best time.

Whitworth will host its own last-chance meet on Wednesday afternoon.
