SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University's throwing women continued to excel down the stretch of the 2022 track & field season during Wednesday's Whitworth Last Chance Meet at Boppell Track.

Renee Tiumalu, Lauryn Rawls and AbbieJo Carlson all won throwing events, with Tiumalu and Rawls making impressive improvements.

Tiumalu won the shot put with a distance of 42'-10.75", an improvement of two feet over her previous season best.  She is now 32nd on the NCAA Division III list.

Rawls won the discus with a throw of 146'-0", improving by three and a half feet from last week's previous season-best.  Like last week, she accomplished that mark on her final throw and now ranks ninth in NCAA Division III.

Carlson won the hammer throw with a distance of 158'-1", just about three feet off her season-best mark.  Tiumalu was second with a throw of 125'-4".

Alison Ball posted another season-best mark for the Pirates in the 200-meter dash.  She crossed the line in 25.36, improving her previous best time by .22 of a second.

Ball, along with Jordyn Lungo, Amelia Hewson and Mackenzie Ward, went 48.35 in the 4x100 relay, just off of their previous best time of 48.29.

Similarly, Hewson won the women's 100-meter hurdles in 14.32, but did not better the PR she set last week.  Her time of 14.19 still ranks 12th in Division III.

Lexi Caniglia went 1:01.05 in her first 400-meter dash of the season.  Ward has Whitworth's best time in that event this season (1:00.39).

There was one track record set on Wednesday.  Rocky Mountain's Sydney Little Light won the women's 800-meters with a time of 2:09.81, breaking the previous record by nearly 1.5 seconds.  Madelyn Buckley (2:20.21) was second and Nikohl Jordan (2:21.44) was third.

Kainoa Figueira posted a season-best for the men.  He finished third in a tight race of the 800-meters with a time of 1:54.96, less than half a second from first place.  He improved his time by 1.64 seconds.

Matthew Christianson had the only other season-best for the men with a time of 4:07.60 in the 1,500-meters.  He improved by a second while finishing second in the race.  Mason Velasquez (4:17.40) edged out James Dugenet (4:17.41) for fourth place.

Solo Hines finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.99, just a tenth off his previous season-best mark.

Reed Hurst won the shot put with a distance of 48'-2.75" and was second in the discus (153'-1").  Both were just off of his season-bests.  Ignacio Garcia was second in the men's hammer with a throw of 151'-6".
