Pirates Win Twice at Jenn Boylan Memorial Invite

McMINNVILLE, Ore. – The Whitworth University women held on to win the 4x100 relay while Reed Hurst took first place in the men's shot put to highlight the Pirate performances on Saturday at Linfield University's Jenn Boylan Memorial Invitational track and field meet.

Jordan Lungo, Amelia Hewson, Mackenzie Ward and Allison Ball held off Linfield by one-one hundredth of a second in the women's 4x100 relay with a time of 49.26.

Ball went on to finish second in the women's 200-meter dash with a lifetime PR of 26.16, while Hewson was sixth in 26.81.  Earlier in the meet Hewson finished second in the 100-meter dash in 13.01.

The Pirate women were runners-up in the 4x400 relay at the end of the meet with a time of 4:14.21.

Carmen Winslow-Gonzalez had a strong showing in the women's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.18.  Madelyn Buckley was fourth in the women's 1,500 in 4:54.91. 

Renee Tiumalu led the Pirate women's throwers, taking second in the shot put with a mark of 39'-2.25".  Eva Millan was third in the javelin (125'-3") and Abby Jo Carlson took fourth in the discus (120'-4").

Hurst had another strong showing for Whitworth's men.  He won the shot put with a distance of 47'-7.75".  He took third in the discus, but hit his own PR for the third time this season (147'-3").  Malachi Areta was fourth in the hammer throw in 153'-3".

James Dugenet posted a PR (15:41.63) while finishing second in the men's 5,000-meter run.

Joe Tingstad was fourth in the long jump (20'-5") and fifth in the 110-meter high hurdles (17.14).

The Pirates will return home to host the Peace Meet on Friday afternoon (April 8).
