SPOKANE, Wash. – Whitworth University won three events and posted several Northwest Conference leading marks during the Buc Scoring Invitational on Thursday and Friday at Boppell Track.
Both of the Pirate women's relays had impressive showings. The women's 4x100 relay (Jordyn Lungo, Amelia Hewson, Mackenzie Ward and Alison Ball) went 48.31 to finish second at the meet to Washington State, but posted the best time in the NWC this season. Likewise Ward, Ball, Alexis Caniglia and Nikohl Jordan went 4:10.22 in the women's 4x400 relay, taking second to Gonzaga on Friday, but posting the NWC's best mark of 2022 so far.
The Pirate men's 4x400, made up of Xavier Betancourt, Kainoa Figueira, Cameron Lantagne and Ibrahim Diop, finished third on Friday with a time of 3:26.03, which is also the fastest in the NWC in 2022.
Hewson individually finished second in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.47, setting a new benchmark for the conference. She was also sixth in the 100-meter dash (12.67).
Jordan and Caniglia finished 6th (2:17.96) and 10th (2:21.64), respectively, in the women's 800-meter run. Jordan's time now leads the NWC and Caniglia's time is third.
Figueira posted a lifetime-best mark in the men's 400-meter dash (51.20), which is now the second-best mark in the NWC. He finished third in the event on Friday.
Betancourt went 57.63 in the men's 400-meter hurdles, which was good for sixth in the meet and is now third in the NWC.
Whitworth's event winners included Ellie Shoop in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase (12.21.26), Haley Jacobson in the women's 5,000-meter run (19:46.37) and Marc Dugenet in the men's 10,000-meter run (34.18.54).
In the field events, Abbie Jo Carlson went 128'-4" in the discus to take third place at the Buc Scoring meet and take over the lead in the NWC. Reed Hurst hurled the discus 144-2, which was sixth in the event at the meet and is now second in the NWC.
In the multi-events, which took place on Thursday and Friday, Jalen Martin finished fourth in the decathlon with 5,672 points, while Joseph Tingstad was sixth with 5,534 points. Nathan Dykstra was 8th (5,043) and Cameron Ditter finished 11th (4,531). Breanne Rawls took fifth in the heptathlon with a score of 3,794.
Whitworth will be back in action on April 2nd at the Linfield Invitational.
